Layer 02 - The Characters Masami Eiri He worked with Iwakura Yasuo at Tachibana labs researching the Wired and Navi's capabilities. The company wanted to make devices to help people be connected by the Wired for marketing purposes, but Masami's ideals went far beyond this. He wanted to create unaided connection to the Wired (without devices) so that people could be completely downloaded into it. Well, this would make for bad business, the company wouldn't make as much money. So, they fired him. Eiri knew his way around the network by then, though. So he staged his death and fully entered the Wired. SPOILERS Eiri is the 'Deis' of the Wired and his followers are the Knights. He tells Lain that he created her and that she is his equal in the Wired. He also says he loves her and that she is not alone, hitting it where it matters for her. But she takes control by removing his believers from the picture and taking his place, becomming much more of a god than he ever was. She was never his equal, she was more. In the end when the memory of herself is stripped from everyone, we see an irritated Eiri passing Taro on the street and talking to himself about threatening to quit Tachibana labs. <<Return
